Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage

60 minutes: $125
90 minutes: $180
120 minutes: $225

In the Japanese language “Ashi” translates to foot and “Atsu” into pressure. Ashiatsu DeepFeet Bar Therapy, is a barefoot massage technique in which the therapist delivers deep, broad, consistent pressure while utilizing their feet and body weight. Working with gravity instead of against it, Ashiatsu therapists are able to provide an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort to themselves or the receiving client.

Cream or oil is applied to the clients body making this deep therapeutic massage fluid and relaxing. Parallel bars are used above the massage table for balance, support and client safety.  To learn more about the roots of barefoot massage and the inspiration for the Deepfeet version of Ashiatsu, click here.  To learn more about Deepfeet and to watch a short video example, click here.

Ashiatsu is not suitable for everyone:

Due to the compressive nature of Ashiatsu barefoot massage, therapists must take extra precaution with certain client conditions. This a just a hand full of conditions that would be contraindicated for receiving an ashiatsu treatment.

  • High blood pressure
  • Recent injuries or surgeries
  • Contagious skin disorders
  • Compromised immune system
  • Acute liver or kidney disorders
  • Certain medications

Deep Tissue Massage

60 minutes: $125
90 minutes: $180
120 minutes: $225

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha (from Mandarin 刮痧 (guāshā, literally “scrape sand”) is an ancient, traditional Chinese medicine technique (TCM) in which a tool--usually a jade stone or stainless steel tool, is used to scrape the skin, break up "sand" or other blockages (aka "crunchies," "knots," "crystals," uric acid, calcium deposits etc.) to increase blood flow to an area and reduce pain.

Gua sha was introduced to me by my massage therapist who is medically trained and healed my plantar faciitis.  I currently offer this service for the feet in combination with massage and reflexology until I have further continuing education for the whole body.  Gua sha facials are available at Top to Bottom Skin care by licensed and trained estheticans.  Click here to book a Gua sha facial.  Click here and here to find my favorite tools on Amazon for scraping the feet.

Hot Stone Therapy

60 minutes: $125
90 minutes: $180
120 minutes: $225

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are integrated into your session by massaging with the stones and/or placing them on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

Neuromuscular Therapy

60 minutes: $125
90 minutes: $180
120 minutes: $225

Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that were developed in the 1930's by Dr. Stanley Lief in England. It uses a holistic approach towards healing, emphasizing and stimulating the body's natural ability to heal itself. Neuromuscular therapy also enhances the function of joints and muscles, and accelerates the overall healing process by facilitating the release of endorphins.  Michelle is trained and certified in the American version of NMT, developed by Judith Delaney.

"NMT assessments and examinations primarily address:

  • ischemia (tight tissue with reduced blood flow)
  • myofascial trigger points (hypersensitive points within muscles that give rise to referred phenomena, including pain)
  • neural entrapment (pressure on nerves by muscles and other soft tissues), and nerve compression (pressure on nerves by osseous and other bonelike tissues, such as cartilage or  discs).
  • postural assessment (assessment of the position of the body as a whole)
  • dysfunctional gait patterns (manner of movement when walking)

with constant consideration for many other perpetuating factors, such as hydration, nutrition, breathing patterns, and psychologic stress.

NMT is highly effective for clients who present with chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care; many help to improve performance in sport or dance and to prevent injuries due to these activities" (https://nmtcenter.com/description, 2022).

Prenatal Massage

60 minutes: $125
90 minutes: $180

Prenatal Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, pregnancy massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.  Body pillows, wedges and bolstering are used for side-lying massage and a semi-reclined position.

It is typically preferred that you wait until after your first trimester, however if you do not have any complications, massage is safe throughout your entire pregnancy.  For further reading on the myths of massage and pregancy, click here.

Reflexology

30 minutes: $65

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.  Reflexology can be included with your massage session at no additional charge or booked as a stand-alone appointment.

Note: Pressing on reflexology points does not induce labor or cause miscarriages.  It is okay and quite beneficial to get your feet and ankles massaged during pregnancy.  For further reading on the myths of massage during pregnancy, click here.
